I love essential oils! I REALLY LOVE ESSENTIAL OILS! They can be used for an innumerable amount things, including, but not limited to illness and mood. I’m sharing with you a few of my favorite back to school essential oils that can aid in your child’s immunity, mood and sleep.
Although the excitement of the beginning of another school year brings about excitement in children, the thought of reintroducing my sweet little germ carrier to other little germ carriers where they will exchange germs makes me cringe (yes, I am slighty germophobic). I do not use essential oils to substitute medicine; I use it as a supplement and sometimes as a preventive measure.
Sage Oil – Sage essential oil is a great expectorant when you or your child have a cough or cold. It also provides relief from congestion. I usually diffuse sage oil or apply to my children’s feet or chest mixed with carrier oil after taking a bath or shower. You can also rub it on your belly to aid in constipation.
Eucalyptus Oil – Eucalyptus essential oil aids in relieving seasonal allergies. I diffuse eucalyptus oil or apply to my children’s feet (then cover with thick socks and slippers) or chest mixed with carrier oil after taking a bath or shower and apply it to their chest before they leave for school. For decongesting, I add a few drops to my steamy shower and it converts my entire bathroom into a diffuser! Baybeeeeeeee!!!!!!
Lime Oil – Lime essential oil has many benefits but the benefit that I have found useful use that it aids in reducing fever brought on by colds, flu and viral infections. It also aids in the development of each. Lime oil can also be used as a mood booster.
Tea Tree Oil – Tea Tree essential oil is BAE!!!!! I t can be used along with a carrier oil to relieve and sometimes. eliminate acne. It also aids in clearing blemishes. It calms itching brought on by insect bites or eczema. It can be diffused to purify the air. It aids in clearing up sinus infection.
Grapefruit Oil – Aside from smelling heavenly, grapefruit essential oil can be diffused to relieve stress, depression and anxiety. The aroma stimulates certain hormones that uplift the mind. It also helps rid your body of toxins by increasing urine frequency, which could aid in keeping your urinary tract free from infections. sidenote: I also add few drops of grapefruit oil to my kitchen drain to keep it fresh. *whispers* I also add a few drops (sometimes a lot) to my hair conditioner that I co-wash with every morning.
Lavender Oil – Lavender essential oil can be diffused and aid in relaxing your child while study, read or complete homework. You can rub it on their feet mixed with a carrier oil after their nightly bath to help them unwind for bedtime. You can diffuse it while they sleep. And it aids in inflammatory conditions and when added to Chamomile Oil and a carrier oil it treats eczema.
I typically diffuse essential oils or apply it to skin mixed with a carrier oil. If ever you choose to apply an essential oil to your child’s skin, you should only do so using a carrier oil. Carrier oils can also be used on skin alone to lock in moisture after daily showers or baths. Here are a few of my favorite carrier oils:
